Publishers’ regional coverage defined

The producers, or organisations, on opendata.fi have now been categorised based on their regional coverage. The regional coverage is based on the geographical area the publisher and their data cover.

There are three categories of regional coverage:

  • Country: organisations that cover the entire country

  • Region: organisations that cover one region

  • Cities: organisations that cover one city or municipality

If the regional coverage cannot be defined, or if the organisation doesn’t comfortably fit in any of the regional coverage categories, the organisation can be categorised based on the producer type.

There are six producer types:

  • State administration: state administration organisations that do not cover the entire country

  • Public service: public sector services

  • Education - Research: research facilities, universities, and secondary schools

  • Enterprise: private sector companies

  • Society - Trust: societies and trusts

  • Person: data published by private individuals

Each organisation’s administrators should check that the regional coverage for their organisation has been correctly defined. You can see the regional coverage on your organisations page on opendata.fi as a label on each dataset or on the About-tab under Producer type. If you don’t agree with the regional coverage defined for your organisation, you can change it by managing your organisation’s information: Organisation > Manage > Producer type. Correctly defined regional coverage helps users find what they are looking for.
