We started our internship at the Population Register Centre in the content creation team for opendata.fi at the end of May. Meeri is finishing her studies in English translation and communications at the University of Vaasa. Jonna studies English translation at Tampere University. We’re both specializing in technical communications, which means that we act as interpreters between an engineer’s vision and the end user.
In practice, this means we will rewrite and translate the user guide, improve the UI texts, and write the service specifications and terms and conditions. We will also update our social media accounts and translate content into English. Additionally, we categorise datasets, add showcases and find out what kind of open data there is available in Finland.
So far we have had the chance to try a lot of different tasks, and we have enjoyed working with open data. We have learned a lot about open data and communications, as well as what it is like to work for the government. We’re sure this experience will be useful in the future. Hopefully we will succeed in increasing the usability of our service.
